Imperfections: the cause

Imperfections often mean the presence of blackheads, which can affect all types of skin: greasy, combination, normal or dehydrated. The main causes of imperfections are:
Lifestyle
This has a very significant impact on the skin. A lifestyle where there is too little sleep and a situation that gives rise to stress and an unbalanced diet can affect the skin. This may spark off a chain reaction that over stimulates the sebaceous gland and generates irregular secretion.
Hormonal component.
This is a component for women, especially in the pre-menstrual period. The production of sebum increases in an irregular way which can affect the skin.
Pollution
Pollution in our towns and cities can exacerbate imperfections. Dirt molecules are deposited on the skin clogging it, obstructing the sebaceous ducts encouraging the appearance of blackheads.
Use of some cosmetics
Some soap products which can be effective against impurities can often leave the skin feeling dry.
Understanding the symptoms of imperfections
shine_lips Shine
Shine is in general a symptom associated with oily skin.
However, it can also affect combination or dehydrated
skin, localized in certain areas of the face.
Shine is linked to the phenomenon of hyperseborrhea of the pilo-sebaceous follicles.
Excess sebum is evacuated to the skins surface causing certain areas of the face to look shiny.
In the case of imperfection-prone skin: - Shine is generally localized on the forehead and chin.

redness Redness
Redness is a symptom which conveys
inflammation of the pilo-sebaceous follicles. It is thus often linked with spots.Redness may also be either the forerunner to or the residual trace of a spot.In the case of imperfectionprone
skin: - redness is not widespread and often surrounds small spots.
- It is thus particularly localized along the jaw bones and the forehead.

dilated-pores Dilated pores
Dilated pores are one of the symptoms which can be experienced by all skin types: These are connected to excess production of sebum and to the accumulation of grease on the skin. As sebum rises towards the surface, it gradually deforms the walls of these follicles. The visible result is skin with numerous small circular holes. In the case of imperfection- prone skin:
- Dilated pores are generally found on the sides of the nose, cheeks and forehead.

unevenskin Uneven skin surface
This results from a combination of irregular sebum production. The sebaceous glands are obstructed by excessive production of sebum.
The process of irregular cellular renewal brings hyper-keratinisation..
In the case of imperfection-prone skin: - Comedones set in on the forehead and along the jaw bones.
- They are few in number

minor-blemishes Spots
Shine is in general a symptom associated with oily skin. However, it can also affect combination or dehydrated skin, localized in certain areas of the face. Shine is linked to the phenomenon of hyperseborrhea of the pilo-sebaceous follicles.
Excess sebum is evacuated to the skins surface causing certain areas of the face to look shiny. In the case of imperfection-prone skin: - Shine is generally localized on the forehead and chin.

blackheads Blackheads (blocked pores)
These imperfections are the result of a build up of sebum in the pilo sebaceous follicles. On contact with air, the sebum oxidizes and turns brown. In the case of imperfection-prone skin - Blackheads are few in number
- They are similar
- They appear notably on the sides of the nose, as well as on the forehead and chin.

Aggravated imperfections
Symptoms
More dilated pores- leading to irregular thick skin texture- giving appearance of a coarse, dull, unclear complexion. With age, sometimes these imperfections persist and evolve with time. They get aggravated and deeply rooted, look more established and visible.
What does such a skin need ?
Apart from regular topical creams, it requires occasional deep treatment- In-depth renovation which could be done by skin resurfacing procedures like micro-dermabrasion: - in a dermatologist’s clinic or using Home kits

Sudden eruptions (breakouts)
Symptoms
Sudden eruptions followed by redness and inflammation with stinging sensation.

How does a localised breakout appear?
Due to factors like hormonal changes, stress, pollution, weather changes-
» Cluster of dead cells begin to build up in certain areas.
» Skin thickens there, it obstructs the pores.
» Sebum produced cannot get secreted out. It gets trapped.
» Due to the accumulated sebum, sebum glands get bigger in size.
» Bacteria proliferate in the sebum.
» Sudden local eruptions with stinging & redness appears.

Your Questions, our answers regarding skin imperfections.
1. Can stress cause skin imperfections to appear?
Yes, stress has an induspitable effect on the skin and can notably cause the appearance of redness, small spots, shine and blackheads.
2. Is it possible to experience unclear skin problems if you never had acne as a child?
Yes. Usually acne begins during puberty and clears up around the age of 20.However skin imperfections may persist into adulthood, particularly in women.
3. Can taking a contraception pill have a positive influence on skin imperfections?
Yes. But the depends on the type of the pill and on its dosage of the two principal components oestrogen and progesterone. Oestrogen has quite a beneficial effect on the skin and thus on imperfections, whereas certain types of progesterone can stimulate the sebaceous glands.
4. Can menstruation cause an ‘’acne-style’’ eruption even during adulthood?
Yes, as during the second half of the hormonal cycle, oestrogen production drops whereas certain types of progesterone can stimulate the sebaceous glands.
5. Are the skin imperfections contagious?
No. The development of these cutaneous anomalies takes place inside the hair follicles away from the air
