DullSkin
Dull, non-radiant Skin Poor blood circulation
Symptoms
Dull, lifeless skin.
Looks tired and fatigued.
Lacks glow
Everyone wants fresh, healthy colour, but often our skin assumes a grey, opaque and
faded appearance.
Dull Skin: the causes
"Factors such as fatigue, stress, pollution, weather, smoking, excessive alcohol
intake, lack of sleep The skins cellular renewal is disturbed when the skin is tired,
stressed and exposed to pollution. This can cause the skin to dry out and become
uneven. In turn, this leads to a poor reflection of light on the skin, and the complexion
becomes dull."
In addition external factors can also cause blood micro vessels to contract.
As a result fair skin can lose its rosy, fresh look, and dark complexions lose their
golden glow.
As a consequence, the red components of the reflected light loose intensity and
can become opaque. Stress, a lack of sleep and fatigue also cause a slowing down
of the microcirculation. On the eye contour, where skin is particularly thin, it
can take on a faded, greyish colour around the eye sockets
Interaction between the skin and light
Luminosity of the face and skin around the eyes has correlation to the optical properties
that light assumes upon contact with the skin. Healthy skin should look smooth and
uniform. At the moment in which the lights rays reach the surface of the skin, a
small part is immediately reflected by the cutaneous relief in a uniform way.
Phase 1
Most of the suns rays penetrate the epidermis and then the dermis. During their
passage the rays meet some obstacles, the chromophores, which progressively absorb
some of the colours of the light spectrum.
Phase 2
When they eventually come into contact with the micro blood vessels, the luminous
rays meet the haemoglobin, which absorbing all the colours of the light spectrum,
except red, are reflected towards the surface. This is called ‘retro- diffusion
of light’. This colour gives the skin its bright and fresh appearance.
Phase 3
If the two phenomena on the surface and in depth are in optimal conditions. The
colouring is luminous and shiny and will have a uniform and healthy appearance.
