Ageing: Fine lines, first wrinkles, deep wrinkles
Skin Ageing is a complex process which involves slowdown of cellular activity and
inability of the cells to perform their normal functions. To a large extent, skin
ageing is reflected by wrinkle appearance. Wrinkles are an end result of various
intrinsic & extrinsic factors that act and leave their imprint on the skin
Factors responsible for Skin Ageing
Extrinsic Factors
Facial Expressions : constant muscular movements, Photo induced :
induced by UV rays of the sun, Behavioral : accelerated by smoking, pollution, excessive
alcohol intake, stress
Intrinsic Factors
Chronological : Skin functions that decline with age, Hormonal : Hormone
depletion leading to dry skin, loss of elasticity & loss of skin substance
Skin Ageing : Symptoms
In case of extrinsic factors
Combination of fine wrinkles & coarse wrinkles, tanned skin & irregular pigmentation,
firm skin tone, dryness – loss of hydration
In case of intrinsic factors
Skin with creases, well set wrinkles, increased skin fragility, slackness & loss
of elasticity, sagging skin, dryness – decrease in activity of sebaceous glands,
age spots appear.
Vichy Laboratoires through constant research have classified ageing into different
types depending on skin symptoms and factors responsible. Vichy has also devised
various evaluation techniques to determine the stage of ageing. These stages are
